Congratulations to Mrs. Hill, librarian, and Ms. McShane, ITS, for receiving a PIE Foundation Grant for $2000.00. When asked about their project Totally dEVOted to Coding for all, Mrs. Hill said, “Coding is a skill that every student needs to have, starting as young as four years old. Coding teaches critical thinking and reasoning and builds a basis for mathematical, linguistic and scientific learning. These robots [Ozobot Evos] can be taught to follow code by using colorful markers (for the younger students) or by using Blockly code language on an app (for the older students).” This project meets our Campus Improvement Goal 2: We will promote academic excellence through learning and enrichment opportunities that engage and inspire every student.
Ms. McShane added, “Our goal with this project is to increase teacher confidence in integrating coding into instruction. We also hope to have ALL students engaged, having fun, and being creative while building fundamental computer science skills.” Fern Bluff students will enjoy using the Ozobot Evos during their library times and during Girls Coding Club.
